Think Wanaka and you might immediately think of The Wanaka Tree, but there is so much more to discover than just a tree in a lake. One of my favourite hikes, the Rob Roy Glacier Walk lies an hour from Wanaka in the Matukituki Valley, and on the way there the quiet scenery of Glendhu Bay makes a stunning setting for sunrise and sunset. At the head of Lake Wanaka in the Makarora Valley you'll discover the incredible Blue Pools with water so blue it's sure to amaze. Head north towards the Mackenzie Country and you'll be in awe of the barren and beautiful alpine scenery in The Lindis Pass, which looks different in every season but most impressive after fresh snowfall.
