The wild West Coast is home to some of NZ's grandest mountain to sea views with the Southern Alps rising in sharp contrast to the low lying coastal views. My favourite location here is at Lake Matheson where on a calm day you can capture the stunning view of Mt Cook and Mt Tasman reflected in the lake. On the West Coast you also find the amazing Hokitika Gorge with its incredible water colour that just seems too impossibly aqua to be real, and the drive through the Haast Pass which links the coast inland to Wanaka hosts spectacular waterfalls like Thunder Creek Falls and Fantail Falls.
Spend time around Fox and Franz Josef Glaciers and you'll discover many hidden delights like Peters Pool, the Callery Gorge and Lake Mapourika.
The West Coast is also home to amazing coastal locations like Punakaiki, Motukiekie Beach and the Oparara Arches in the north, and further south Okarito Lagoon, Gillespies Beach and the wild coast of Bruce Bay.
